JACKSON BROWNE OVERSEES NEW REMASTERING OF HIS CLASSIC ALBUM RUNNING ON EMPTY

LOS ANGELES – Jackson Browne went on tour in 1977 with a remarkable group of musicians to create an album about the road, on the road. The result was Running on Empty, a musical portrait of life on tour that is as brutally honest as it is achingly beautiful. Paul Nelson wrote in his original Rolling Stone review of the album that “Browne has consciously created a documentary, as brightly prosaic as it is darkly poetic, with a keen eye for the mundane as well as the magical.”

A new version of Running On Empty with newly remastered sound and a faithful reproduction of the original artwork will be available July 5 on CD ($14.98), 180-gram vinyl ($24.98), and through digital download and streaming services. The album was mastered by Gavin Lurssen of Lurssen Mastering. The vinyl was mastered by Ron McMaster, and manufactured on 180-gram vinyl by the Pallas Group.

The album features 10 live performances recorded in 1977 between August 17 and September 18 by Browne and his band: guitarist Danny Kortchmar; David Lindley on fiddle and lap steel guitar; keyboardist Craig Doerge; bassist Leland Sklar; drummer Russ Kunkel; and background vocalists Doug Haywood and Rosemary Butler. Together, they took an unconventional and, at the time, profoundly innovative approach to recording these songs, opting for natural settings while on the road, such as a Holiday Inn hotel room, a backstage rehearsal space, on a tour bus, and on stage.

Cameron Crowe has previously noted on the album: “More than a live recording, Running On Empty was closer to a life recording,” adding that Browne was backed by his “mightiest band yet.”

The New York Times foresaw the album’s future influence in their 1978 review, predicting that “this album and its success may prove to be a powerful leavening influence, on both Mr. Browne and other singer‐songwriters whose ambitions are even remotely like his own.”

Running On Empty is Browne’s biggest-selling album, peaking at #3 on the Billboard albums chart, and has been certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA for sales of over seven million copies.

JACKSON BROWNE ADDS MORE FULL BAND SHOWS TO HIS EAST COAST TOUR THIS JUNE & JULY

Special Guest Lucius will open NY shows in Saratoga Springs, Bethel and four nights at the Beacon Theatre

(Los Angeles, February 7, 2019).  Singer Songwriter Jackson Browne adds more shows to his East Coast Tour, which starts with a four-night concert run at the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY this June 2019. New dates include shows in Wallingford, CT and Boston, MA as well as at Wolf Trap, in Saratoga Springs, and concluding in Bethel, NY on July 6th. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 15 at 10 AM (Eastern Time).

Special guest Lucius will open the four Beacon Theatre shows, scheduled for June 23, 24, 26 and 28, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY (July 5) and Bethel Woods in Bethel, NY (July 6).

Accompanying Jackson this June & July are longtime band mates Bob Glaub (bass), Mauricio Lewak (drums), Val McCallum (guitar), Alethea Mills (vocals), Chavonne Stewart (vocals), Jeff Young (keyboards, vocals), and the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz (guitar, lap steel, pedal steel).

Lucius and Jackson first met in 2015 on the set of the Cameron Crowe created show Roadies.  Fronted by the enchanting Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, Lucius has drawn acclaim for powerful songs showcasing taut hooks, along with their mesmerizing stage presence and bold visual aesthetics.  The New York Times described Wolfe and Laessig’s vocals as being “especially gorgeous,” while Rolling Stone says Lucius is “powerful enough to knock you over.”  Talented multi-instrumentalists Peter Lalish and Dan Molad round out the group.

“I went to my first Lucius concert thinking I knew what they do,” said Jackson Browne.  “I had sung a little with Jess and Holly, and I was enchanted by them and by their unique singing. But I was amazed to discover the depth and the originality of this band. Their songs and their arrangements, their huge dynamics – they just blew me away. Then I saw them a second time in a smaller venue, and it was so intimate, and again, on a whole other level, I was fascinated by the unique collaboration taking place. I’m excited that I get to appear with Lucius this summer, and that my audience will have a chance to hear this great band. And of course, I’m really happy to have the chance to play for their audience too. My band and their band – these shows will be epic!”

Jackson Browne and Phoebe Bridgers Team Up for “Christmas Song” Cover

Courtesy: Pitchfork.com

“It’s not that often that I hear a Christmas song that doesn’t make me want to quit music” — Phoebe Bridgers”

Phoebe Bridgers has shared a new cover of McCarthy Trenching’s “Christmas Song” featuring vocals from Jackson Browne. Hear it below. In a statement, Bridgers writes, “The first time I heard this song it hit me like a ton of bricks. A lot of McCarthy Trenching songs do that. It’s not that often that I hear a Christmas song that doesn’t make me want to quit music.” She continues:

News 11.30.18 Christmas Song

I played a show in L.A. around the holidays last year where I covered it for the first time. Jackson Browne was there, and he came up to me after the show to tell me how much he loved the song. A couple days later, Dan [McCarthy] got a Bandcamp notification on his desktop computer that someone paid 50 bucks for his record and wrote a nice note and signed it Jackson Browne. He thought someone was fucking with him. So when I decided to record a version of the song, I knew who I wanted to sing on it. Plus, I have wanted to make music with Jackson as long as I’ve wanted to make music.
