Rolling Stone reports that musician Jackson Browne has tested positive for COVID-19 but it is fortunately experiencing mild symptoms.
Browne shared insights from his experience:
“‘It is important for us all to be pretty forthcoming about what we’re going through. Our experiences will be helpful for others to know. I don’t think my case is that important, but it might be helpful to know that some people don’t get this really bad. The idea that we can contribute to the overall herd immunity. November 22, 2019
Let the Rhythm Lead comes out on January 31, 2020 from Artists for Peace and Justice via Arts Music
November 22, 2019: Today, Arts Music released the track “Love is Love” from the upcoming benefit album Let the Rhythm Lead: Haiti Song Summit Vol 1, a collaborative project of songwriters Paul Beaubrun, Jackson Browne, Habib Koité, Jenny Lewis, Raúl Rodríguez, Jonathan Russell, and Jonathan Wilson, with members of the Haitian roots band Lakou Mizik.
“Love is Love” is featured on the collection Let The Rhythm Lead: Haiti Song Summit Vol. 1, out January 31, 2020.
Hailing from four different countries, interweaving North American Indie Rock with beats and percussion of Haitian Vodou, Spanish and Malian guitar, Tres Flamenco, with songs in English, Creole, Khassonké, Manding and Spanish, Let The Rhythm Lead celebrates the work of Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti, and was recorded at their Artists Institute on the island’s southern coast, in the town of Jacmel.

“We wrote ‘Love Is Love’ in Haiti over three years ago – in November of 2016 – inspired by the beauty and resilience of the Haitian people, and the farsighted and soulful work of Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake,” says Jackson Browne.
“I wrote it with David Belle, whose deep understanding of the people and the culture informed our group’s experience there. Love Is Love contains some of my immediate impressions of Haiti, but especially the spirit I saw there in the faces of families, children, and lovers, as they take on the challenges of rebuilding their country in the face of multiple disasters.
From the day we recorded Love Is Love in the Artist Institute Studio, I would see and hear students singing the refrain as they walked the halls to classes, both in English – Love Is Love, and in Creole – Lanmou se Lanmou. This is one of the best feelings you can get making music – to see people take your song into their lives. That this could happen there in Haiti is a source of great joy for me.
Our Haiti Song Summit project, Let The Rhythm Lead, carries the imprint of our indelible experience in Haiti as friends, and as musical voyagers.”

Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, The Mastersons, Thao Nguyen, David Pulkingham Unite To Stand With Families At U.S. Border
September 9, 2019

New York, NY – On the heels of a summer that saw the Trump administration ramp up its attacks against families seeking safety at the southern U.S. border, the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) today announced “The Lantern Tour II: Concerts for Migrant and Refugee Families,” with the first two concerts taking place on Tuesday, November 5 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., and on Wednesday, November 6 at The Town Hall in Manhattan.
Tickets go on sale at the Warner at 10 a.m. Friday, September 13, and at The Town Hall at noon that same day, with additional dates and venues to be announced throughout the coming year.
The nationwide tour will take place between fall of 2019 and summer of 2020, and reunites Grammy-nominated and award-winning musicians Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, and Steve Earle for the concert series to benefit WRC and its work on behalf of migrant and asylum-seeking families.
The Grammy-nominated and award-winning lineup for the fall dates include Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, The Mastersons, Thao Nguyen, and David Pulkingham. Note that not all artists will appear on all dates.
“I am thrilled to be teaming up again with the Women’s Refugee Commission,” said lead tour musician Emmylou Harris, a supporter of the organization. “They are on the front lines in advocating for the safety of displaced women and children. It is my honor to continue this important partnership and to bring my music friends along for another powerful tour in the coming year.”
WRC has a long history of documenting conditions for asylum-seeking women and children at the U.S. border and then advocating for their rights and protections. Since the Trump administration came into power, it has taken an even more robust leadership role in identifying human rights violations.
“The Women’s Refugee Commission believes strongly in the power of art and advocacy and we are proud to launch The Lantern Tour II,” said Sarah Costa, WRC executive director. “Music has long been an important part of advancing social change and we are thrilled to be partnering with such a spectacular group of talented musicians committed to social justice.”
Over the last year, the Trump administration has continued to separate families seeking safety at the U.S. border with Mexico, severely curtailed the ability to make asylum claims at the border, and sought to indefinitely detain migrant and asylum-seeking children in detention centers.
“WRC is on the front lines fighting back against the administration’s inhumane immigration policies,” said Costa. “We go into detention centers to hear directly from women and children about how these policies are devastating their lives. Right now, more then ever, we need voices from across the country speaking out in support of human rights, which is why this tour is so important. Together, we can make a difference.”
