Jackson Browne Appearing At The 7th Annual 30A Songwriters Festival
December 15, 2015
ATTENTION: This Festival is Close to a Sellout!
The 7th annual 30A SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL- set for January 15, 16 and 17, 2016 – has announced the initial line-up for the 2016 celebration of singers and songs. The festival, held in venues along scenic Highway 30A in Florida’s South Walton County, will feature headline performances from esteemed artists Jackson Browne, Grace Potter, Shovels & Rope and Wine, Women & Song featuring Matraca Berg, Suzy Bogguss & Gretchen Peters.
Headliner Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007. He will perform Saturday afternoon, January 16. “Hopes and dreams become reality at the 30A Songwriters Festival,” says Russell Carter, co-producer/Festival Chair. “We are thrilled to present Jackson Browne as the 2016 headline act. Jackson will perform solo on guitar and piano. It is a singer songwriter performance in its most basic form and it is quite simply profound.”

Tal Wilkenfeld is a musical marvel – the kind of dynamic young talent whose fresh vision and uncanny intuition puts a whole new perspective on an age-old art form. Like a muse-lit meteor, Tal blazed upon the scene as a teen, sitting in with the Allman Brothers within months of her 2006 arrival in New York City. By the end of 2007, she had released her acclaimed instrumental debut, Transformation, hit the road with Chick Corea, appeared on A&E with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and joined Jeff Beck’s world tour for what culminated in her global breakout moment: Her performance at Eric Clapton’s 2007 Crossroads Festival in Chicago, which has generated more than 10 million YouTube hits.
Unanimous praise reverberated throughout the industry, leading Tal to relocate to Los Angeles and begin a steady recording pace with such artists as Prince, Macy Gray, Trevor Rabin, Jackson Browne, Joe Walsh, Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Toto, Todd Rundgren and Ryan Adams and others.

As part of New York City’s annual three-week Flamenco Festival, Town Hall is proud to present the debut collaboration of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and founder of tres flamenco, Raúl Rodríguez.
Jackson Browne and Raúl Rodríguez meet in “Song & Son”, a project that embarks on an exciting exchange, a crossing of American sounds and Spanish rhythms. Supported by years of friendship and collaboration, their meeting gives us a new music born on the border of two traditions.
In the first set, Raúl Rodríguez, with his band (Mario Mas on Flamenco guitar, Guillem Aguilar on bass, Pablo Martín Jones on percussion and Alex Tobias on drums), will introduce the songs of “Razón de Son”, his first solo album. In the second set, Jackson Browne will play with the band and take his songs into the Flamenco rhythms and “Son” of the Afro Andalusian Caribbean.”
Former front-man of Son de la Frontera, Raúl Rodríguez, continues his investigation into the intercultural origin of early flamenco music with his Razón de Son project, expanding the story-frame from the Moorish and Indian origins to the African influence, assimilated since the 17th century through the Andalusian ports of Seville and Cadiz and on to the Latin-American colonies. In Son de la Frontera Raúl introduced the Cuban tres to flamenco – it was a gift from his mother, the renowned singer Martirio, who had been working with Compay Segundo in Havana – and he’s developed a singular style, now named tres flamenco, combining elements of son cubano with toque (flamenco guitar playing styles). Accompanied by accomplished guitar, bass and percussion, his virtuosic tres playing and impassioned singing lead an exciting exploration of flamenco roots.
Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Growing up in the folk boom of the sixties, his singing and playing are rooted in the folk guitar traditions of Appalachian music and country blues, and continue the lineage of the topical ballad in American popular music.

Jackson Browne, Jack Tempchin & Joel Rafael Announce Circle Of Friends Benefit Concert For Cheyne Johnston Recovery
March 5, 2015
On April 9 at the California Center For the Arts, Escondido in North San Diego County, Jackson Browne and friends Jack Tempchin and Joel Rafael will host a special benefit to assist the recovery of Cheyne Johnston, a North County resident. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 7 at Noon and can be purchased through the California Center For the Arts, Escondido at http://artcenter.org.
Last year, on April 27, Cheyne Johnston was involved in a very serious off road motorcycle accident while riding at Lake Elsinore motorcross. He was wearing full protective gear, which most likely saved his life. Cheyne suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, specifically, DAI – which is Diffuse Axonal Injury – meaning he had multiple injuries throughout the brain in addition to forced impact to the front and back of his head. Cheyne also suffered a separated shoulder, multiple rib fractures and a fractured pelvis.
A North County resident, Cheyne is the father of two young children aged six and four. Aged 35, Cheyne is still unable to do anything for himself. As with any brain injury, recovery is a very long and slow process, and each brain injury is unique. In December of 2014, with their own funds depleted, Cheyne’s parents Karen and Charles Macbeth brought him home to live with them as he was no longer making progress in rehab. “We have worked hard and searched high and low to find quality help and therapists and have assembled a really good team, but it has not been easy,” says Karen Macbeth. “The reality of caring for a person with a severe traumatic brain injury is a daunting one. At this point in our journey, Cheyne is not ready for outpatient services, and we’ve found there is a lack of resources. Facilities are limited and expensive, and generally not covered by insurance. Finding experienced caregivers, therapists, doctors, and social workers who have the proper education and ability to care for brain injured individuals is challenging.”
Nearly two million people a year suffer a traumatic brain injury. Funds from the benefit concert will help provide resources for the recovery and care of Cheyne Johnston and help create The Cheyne C. Johnston Foundation for Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery and Education, with the hope to provide resources for other individuals and families who face a similar situation, as well as training for those wanting to specifically work in the field of brain injury recovery and care.
Jackson Browne, a personal friend of the family, along with North County residents and songwriters Jack Tempchin and Joel Rafael, also a friend of the family, decided to join forces as a “circle of friends” benefit to raise funds for Cheyne Johnston recovery.
Tax deductible donations for Cheyne Johnston recovery can be made through the Guacamole Fund at www.guacfund.org.
