(Los Angeles, December 11, 2018). Singer Songwriter Jackson Browne announces a four night concert run at the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY, with his full band, scheduled for June 2019. Special guest Lucius will open the four shows, scheduled for June 23, 24, 26 and 28, 2019. Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 14 at 11 AM (Eastern Time) through all Ticketmaster locations and livenation.com. Advance ticket information is available on the Tour page..
Accompanying Jackson at the Beacon Theatre in June 2019 are longtime band mates Bob Glaub (bass), Mauricio Lewak (drums), Val McCallum (guitar), Alethea Mills (vocals), Chavonne Stewart (vocals), Jeff Young (keyboards, vocals), and the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz (guitar, lap steel, pedal steel).

Lucius and Jackson first met in 2015 on the set of the Cameron Crowe created show Roadies. Fronted by the enchanting Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, Lucius has drawn acclaim for powerful songs showcasing taut hooks, along with their mesmerizing stage presence and bold visual aesthetics. The New York Times described Wolfe and Laessig’s vocals as being “especially gorgeous,” while Rolling Stone says Lucius is “powerful enough to knock you over.” Talented multi-instrumentalists Peter Lalish and Dan Molad round out the group.
“I went to my first Lucius concert thinking I knew what they do,” said Jackson Browne. “I had sung a little with Jess and Holly, and I was enchanted by them and by their unique singing. But I was amazed to discover the depth and the originality of this band. Their songs and their arrangements, their huge dynamics – they just blew me away. Then I saw them a second time in a smaller venue, and it was so intimate, and again, on a whole other level, I was fascinated by the unique collaboration taking place. I’m excited that I get to appear with Lucius this summer, and that my audience will have a chance to hear this great band. And of course, I’m really happy to have the chance to play for their audience too. My band and their band – these shows will be epic!”

August 1, 2018
Lyman Center for the Performing Arts 7:30 Friday, September 14, 501 Crescent Street, New Haven, CT
New Haven, CT — Promoting Enduring Peace announces that the 2018 Gandhi Peace Award will be accepted by singer-songwriter Jackson Browne on Friday September 14, 2018 at a ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyman Center for the Performing Arts, 501 Crescent Street in New Haven, Connecticut. Seating is limited for the event.
Browne is the first artist ever to receive the Gandhi Peace Award. He is being honored for extraordinary contributions of time and talent to the inseparable causes of world peace, environmental harmony, and social justice. The Award comes with a cash prize and a medallion forged from peace bronze composed of metals salvaged from the control systems of U.S. nuclear missiles. The Award Ceremony will feature short musical tributes by local performers, an appeal for action on the local and planetary levels, and the presentation of the Award itself. Consistent with tradition, Browne has been invited “to present a message of challenge and hope” to those present. A reception follows.

The Gandhi Peace Award, named after Indian anti-imperialist and nonviolence advocate Mohandas Gandhi, derives its international renown from those who have accepted it over the years, beginning with Eleanor Roosevelt in 1960. Among the other 53 awardees are Linus Pauling, Martin Luther King, Jr., Norman Thomas, William Sloane Coffin, Benjamin Spock, Wayne Morse, U Thant, Dorothy Day, Daniel Ellsberg, Kay Camp, César Chávez, Marian Wright Edelman, and George McGovern. Since 2011 the Award has been accepted by Arik Ascherman (Rabbis for Human Rights), Amy Goodman (Democracy Now!), Bill McKibben (350.org), Medea Benjamin (Code Pink), Omar Barghouti (BDS), and Ralph Nader (Public Citizen).
Jackson Browne has composed and performed songs widely regarded as among the most literate and moving songs in popular music, defining a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion, and personal politics. Inducted in 2004 into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and in 2007 into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, he has three albums counted among Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 greatest albums of all time.
Browne has organized or participated in thousands of benefit performances to support the environment, social justice, and human rights as well as causes such as music and arts education in public schools, and has worked with two former Gandhi Peace Award recipients, Amnesty International (1978) and the Children’s Defense Fund (1990). He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College for “a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice.”
Several of his albums, such as Lives in the Balance, World in Motion, Looking East, and Standing in the Breach, directly challenge imperialist foreign policy, environmental short-sightedness, and corporate greed, and question the sustainability of the present civilization. The title track of Lives in the Balance calls out the “shadow on the faces / Of the men who send the guns / Of the wars that are fought in places / Where their business interest runs” in civil wars in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
In response to the Three Mile Island nuclear near-catastrophe in 1979, Browne co-founded the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and in more recent years, Nukefree.org. During the 1980s he was active in the Central America solidarity movement, co-organizing concerts in Nicaragua, Cuba, and elsewhere. Lately he has turned his attention to the seas as a member of the advocacy group Ocean Elders.
Last December Browne released “The Dreamer” a song that considers the situation of those protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Fall Concert Series to Benefit Women’s Refugee Commission
New York, NY—As part of its ongoing work to end the Trump administration’s family separation policies and attempts to detain families seeking safety at the U.S. border, the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) today announced a fall concert series that will bring together music legends for a five-city tour in support of families targeted by the Trump administration. “The Lantern Tour: Concerts for Migrant and Refugee Families,” will take place from October 23–28, 2018 across five U.S. cities.
The Grammy-nominated and award-winning lineup includes: Emmylou Harris; Jackson Browne; Mary Chapin Carpenter; Shawn Colvin; Lila Downs; Steve Earle; and Graham Nash. Tour cities include: Nashville, TN; Washington, D.C.; Collingswood, NJ; Boston, MA; and New York, NY. Click here for a complete list of cities and concert venues. Note that not all artists will appear on all dates.
“The Women’s Refugee Commission has been on the front lines in advocating for the safety of women and children. Their work is as remarkable as it is critical, especially right now.” said celebrated singer-songwriter and Lantern Tour lead musician Emmylou Harris, a supporter of WRC. “It is my honor to partner with this incredible organization and to bring my friends along for what I know will be a powerful tour.”
WRC’s Migrant Rights and Justice (MRJ) Program has a long history of documenting conditions at the U.S. border for asylum-seeking women and children and then advocating for their rights and protections. Since the Trump administration came into power, it has taken a leadership role in identifying human rights violations.

“This administration tore children away from parents who were trying to save their lives by asserting their legal right to asylum with no intention of reunifying them.” said MRJ Director Michelle Brané. “It is imperative that we all raise our voices against these dystopian policies. Art and music have long been an important part of advancing social change and we are thrilled to be partnering with such a remarkable group of talented musicians committed to justice.”
The Trump administration began separating families late last year and in April of this year announced its “zero-tolerance” policy toward people who cross into the U.S. from Mexico without documentation, even if they are fleeing danger or seeking protection. As a result, approximately 3,000 children have been separated from their parents.
Despite a June court order halting the separation of families and mandating reunification, the chaotic nature of the administration’s immigration policies has hampered dramatically the ability to return children to their parents and for families to seek safety.
“The government did not keep track of separated families so reuniting them will be at best a herculean task,” said Brané. “And this is no accident. This chaos was created by design to facilitate family detention—that means jailing children—and ultimately to deter families in need of protection from seeking asylum in the U.S.”
In June, President Trump signed an executive order seeking to circumvent existing protections for children so that it can detain whole families in internment camps indefinitely. Earlier this month, a federal judge denied a request by the Justice Department to allow just such a policy to move forward. The Trump administration currently is pursuing other judicial and legislative avenues to enable the long-term detention of children.
