Wild Honey Celebrates The Band: Music From Big Pink & Beyond

Benefit-concert producers the Wild Honey Foundation will present The Band’s first two records Music From Big Pink and The Band, plus bonus songs, performed by a star-studded house band and guest singers. The event, which will benefit the Autism Think Tank, will take place Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 8 p.m., at the historic Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd. in downtown Glendale, Calif.

Led by acclaimed musical director Rob Laufer (whose credits include George Martin’s Hollywood Bowl tribute to Sgt. Pepper), Wild Honey Orchestra and Friends, with a full horn section, will tackle The Band’s deeply influential and unforgettable Music From Big Pink and The Band in their entirety, with the same level of love, passion, and stunning musicianship brought to the ensemble’s previous takes on the Beatles and the Beach Boys. These iconic records include timeless tunes like “Up on Cripple Creek,” “The Weight,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” The show will also include bonus songs such as “It Makes No Difference,” “Stage Fright,” and “The Shape I’m In.”

No musical detail will be spared as Wild Honey cuts to the heart of these iconic songs with help from guest performers: Jackson Browne, The Continental Drifters, Peter Case, Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello) Motown legend Brenda Holloway, Don Was, Syd Straw, Jerry Riopelle, Keith Allison (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Cait O’Riordan (Pogues) David Baerwald (David & David), Victoria Williams, Steve Barton (Translator), Luther Russell, Robert Francis, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Skylar Gudasz, Jackson Browne and Steely Dan collaborator Jeff Young, Plainsong (feat. Iain Matthews & Andy Roberts), Nick Guzman, Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), Bebopalula, All Day Sucker, bassist Bob Glaub, and the always-possible Very Special Guests.

Current members of the Wild Honey Orchestra include a who’s who of respected L.A. recording artists: musical director Rob Laufer, guitar, vocals; Sarah Kramer, horn and string leader/vocals; Jim Laspesa (Dave Davies/Susanna Hoffs), David Goodstein and Ryeland Allison, drums; Derrick Anderson (The Bangles) and Robby Scharf, bass; Rusty Squeezebox (Baby Lemonade, Love), guitar; Chris Price (Emitt Rhodes) and Willie Aron, keyboards, vocals; Jordan Summers, Danny McGough and Robert Lloyd, keyboards; Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson Band), percussion; Kaitlin Wolfberg (L.A. String Explosion) and Lyn Bertles, strings. After performing at the 2015 Wild Honey White Album show, Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne declared the Wild Honey Orchestra to be “just about the most cracking backup band I’ve ever heard. I told my friends that playing with that many amazing musicians behind me felt like piloting a 747.”

As with last year’s sold-out Beach Boys tribute at the Alex, the concert will benefit the Autism Think Tank. This non-profit organization brings together a team of top autism specialists, via an Internet medical conference, to tackle the medical and psychological problems faced by children and young adults with autism like Wild Honey co-organizer Paul Rock’s 13-year-old son Jake, whose own issues have improved since his involvement with the organization.

Dating back to 1994, the 501(3)(c), non-profit Wild Honey’s numerous grassroots benefit events have featured appearances by Brian Wilson, Dave Davies from the Kinks, the late Alex Chilton, The Bangles, Beach Boy Al Jardine, Micky Dolenz, Mike Mills (R.E.M), Al Stewart, Denny Laine, Tony Asher, Dave Gregory of XTC, Danny Hutton from Three Dog Night, Chuck Negron, Matthew Sweet, Colin Hay, Dan Wilson, Jody Stephens of Big Star, The Continental Drifters, Mike Mills of R.E.M., the late P.F. Sloan, Jon Brion, Peter Case, The Plimsouls, Victoria Williams, The Williams Brothers, Dave Alvin, The Blue Shadows, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Scott Miller from the Loud Family, Ann Magnuson, and many others. The shows have been produced at the Alex Theatre and various Los Angeles-area locations including the Morgan-Wixson Theater, the Roxy, the Knitting Factory (Hollywood) and the El Rey Theatre.

Besides the Autism Think Tank, Wild Honey shows have raised funds and awareness for the Children’s Music Fund, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Habitat for Humanity, the Liberty Hill Foundation, USC Norris Cancer Center, and the Coalition to End Gun Violence while paying tribute to musical idols such as Brian Wilson, The Beatles, The Kinks, Big Star, The Byrds, The Everly Brothers, The Hollies, Harry Nilsson, Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney, and Elvis Costello.

Prophets of Rage and Friends Announce Anti Inaugural Ball

TOM MORELLO, TIM COMMERFORD, BRAD WILK, CHUCK D, B-REAL and DJ LORD

JANUARY 20th, LOS ANGELES, TERAGRAM BALLROOM

Set Plans To Make Inauguration Day Rage

Special Guest Performance With Chris Cornell Marks First Audioslave Set in 11 Years. Additional Special Guests Include Vic Mensa, Jackson Browne, Jack Black & The Los Angeles Freedom Choir.

“These guys sounded like a revolution in the making” — LA TIMES

Prophetsofrage Antiinauguralball

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 17, 2017) – In what the LA Times headlined simply as “REVOLUTIONARY” in their earliest performances, the band that was assembled as a politically-charged response to 2016’s tumultuous election year, shows no signs of stopping just because the election is over.  After a sweeping cross country “Make America Rage Again” tour, PROPHETS OF RAGE will bring the rage to Inauguration Day with a special ANTI INAUGURAL BALL concert on Friday, January 20th at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. For the first time in 11 years, Audioslave will perform with Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. Special guests Vic Mensa, Jackson Browne and Jack Black are also set to appear. The full show will be livestreamed on the band’s Facebook page to allow for participation from fans all across the globe.

In a reflection of these artists’ long tradition of protesting the establishment, this date marks the 20th anniversary of Radio Free Los Angeles, a protest concert that members of Rage Against the Machine held at President Clinton’s Inauguration Day.

Tickets will go on-sale today at 5pm PT HERE.

A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network).

“The Anti-Inaugural Ball is a celebration of resistance. Resistance to racism. Resistance to sexism. Resistance to homophobia. Resistance to bullying. Resistance to environmental devastation.  Resistance to fascism. Resistance to Donald Trump. We are staring down the barrel of a dystopian nightmare unless we act NOW, unless we fight back NOW. We intend to create “No Trump Zones” across the country; in our homes, our schools, our places of work, and our concert stages. Bad Presidents make for great music. Join us as we get loud and stand together to defend our rights, our country, and our planet,” said Tom Morello.

Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Jason Mraz and Joel Rafael Donate Over $85k to Standing Rock

Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Jason Mraz, Joel Rafael and John Trudell’s Bad Dog donated over $85k to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe this week from proceeds and donations from their November 27 benefit concert at the Prairie Knights Pavilion in Fort Yates, ND, seven miles from Oceti Sakowin Camp.

The benefit concert sold over 1,500 tickets to the general public and provided 800 free tickets to the Standing Rock community and water protectors. In addition to the money raised for the Tribe, Browne, Raitt and Rafael spent the day before the show at the Oceti Sakowin camp, donating over 500 blankets to those staying for the winter.

11 26 16 001

“What an incredible honor it was to get to experience the powerful coming together of so many thousands united in spirit and commitment to nonviolence, to protect the water and sacred sites,” said Raitt in a press release.

“Arriving at the Oceti Sakowin Camp, with tipis, yurts and campers stretched as far as the eye could see, remains one of my life’s most memorable experiences. Meeting with the tribal elders, taking part in sacred ceremonies, witnessing the incredible work and coordination to provide food, sanitation, security, schooling, medical care and spiritual sustenance to those thousands who have been in the camps and on the line since the summer was incredible. I was filled with such great respect and admiration,” Raitt said.

“We hope the decision to halt construction will prevail in the New Year, but I know the people taking a stand there will continue their fight. We are committed to moving away from our dependence on fossil fuels and into a safer, more job-intensive green energy future. In the meantime, the resilience, strength and courage of all those at Standing Rock will continue to inspire my commitment to nonviolence and the power of people coming together to impact social change,” she said.

“I was called to Standing Rock because of the social and environmental injustices occurring there,” said Mraz in the release. “And because art has the power to open hearts and drive a movement, I couldn’t sit home in silence and allow American History to keep repeating itself. I felt it was time for me to become an ally; to shine a light on the situation and help build a new legacy for indigenous people.

“My first view of the tipis, tents, banners and flags in the 9000 plus gathering of tribes and others from all over the world took my breath away,” said Rafael. “My heart is filled with a renewed commitment to and confirmation of our human rights and our spiritual connection to the earth. My respect and appreciation goes to Jackson Browne and his management team for bringing us all together to encourage the Water Protectors, bring attention to the need to stop the DAPL, and to support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.”

Jason Mraz and Joel Rafael also debuted their new song “Strong” at the benefit concert.

Tell President Obama: Declare Standing Rock a national monument. #NoDAPL

The standoff to stop the Dakota Access pipeline is reaching a fever pitch, and this may be our last chance to halt construction before Donald Trump takes office.

Militarized law enforcement and private security firms are harassing, assaulting and jailing hundreds of non-violent protesters who are fighting for indigenous rights and to curb climate change. They are arresting journalists for doing their constitutionally-protected jobs and attacking non-violent water protectors with tear gas, concussion grenades, rubber bullets and water cannons. And now, North Dakota’s governor has issued an evacuation order for the protest area, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has told protesters to leave by Dec. 5 or face criminal charges.1,2

President Obama can end this standoff now — before Donald Trump closes in on the White House – by declaring Standing Rock a national monument, forever protecting its cultural sites and halting the Dakota Access pipeline’s construction once and for all.

Tell President Obama: Declare Standing Rock a national monument, and stop the Dakota Access pipeline.

Without decisive action by President Obama before his term expires, it is all but certain that Donald Trump’s administration will allow pipeline construction to continue. During the campaign, Trump “vowed to ‘unleash’ unfettered production of oil and gas,” and his potential energy secretary picks are extremely close to the fossil fuel industry. 3

Making matters worse, Trump reportedly owns stock in Energy Transfer Partners, the primary developers behind the multi-billion dollar pipeline construction, and in Phillips 66, which owns a quarter share of the project.4

The push for a Standing Rock national monument is picking up steam and has the backing of progressive powerhouse Sen. Bernie Sanders. In a recent speech to #NoDAPL activists in front of the White House, Sen. Sanders called on President Obama to stop construction of the pipeline by whatever means necessary, saying “to President Obama, in any way that you can: stop the pipeline. And if there are other approaches, such as declaring Standing Rock a Federal Monument, let’s do that.”5

This is our last best shot to stop the Dakota Access pipeline once and for all. President Obama has a chance to do right by the indigenous community, environmentalists and the American people. By declaring Standing Rock a national monument, he can help stop the violence against indigenous people, slow runaway climate change, protect sacred Native sites and drinking water and stop Trump from profiting from this dangerous pipeline.

Tell President Obama: Declare Standing Rock a national monument, and stop the Dakota Access pipeline.

Thanks for all you do.
