Jackson Browne Announces Benefit Concert To Support The Redford Theatre – Thursday, August 10 In Detroit

Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne announces a benefit concert on Thursday, August 10th at the Redford Theatre in the Old Redford neighborhood of Detroit to support the historic venue. Showtime is 7:30 PM. Reserved seats, priced $25, $45, $75, and a limited number of gold circle go on sale this Friday, June 23 at 10am at Ticketmaster.com or at the Redford Theatre during box office hours.
Accompanying Jackson Browne at the benefit concert is long-time bandmate and multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz. All net proceeds raised from the concert will support the Redford Theatre, the Old Redford Re-Development Group and Echopark Guitars in their redevelopment efforts in forming the Old Redford Community Arts Foundation.
“We are forming the Old Redford Community Arts Foundation together to help create arts education programs for the community by utilizing the Redford Theatre and eventually, the old Masonic Temple across the street from the theatre with the Old Redford Re-Development Group”, states Gabriel Currie, owner of Echopark Guitars. Merriweather Post Pavilion Announces Legendary Show To Celebrate Its 50th Anniversary

Merriweather Post Pavilion – the beloved independent amphitheater nestled on 40 wooded acres mid-way between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore – will celebrate its Golden Anniversary July 15. This show will be the pinnacle of the season-long celebration of “Merriweather’s Greatest Hits” a series featuring the best of Merriweather’s longtime favorite acts. To mark the 50th Anniversary, Jackson Browne, Willie Nelson and Father John Misty will perform, with Grace Potter hosting the show.
Jackson Browne’s art and legacy are inextricably tied to Merriweather, as he recorded his best-selling album “Running On Empty” live at the pavilion nearly 40 years ago. The album, which includes the hit “The Load-Out/Stay,” spent 65 weeks on Billboard’s Pop Charts and went Platinum with RIAA seven times – so far.
Venerable favorite Willie Nelson will mark his 14th time playing Merriweather when he hits the stage July 15. Twice he surprised audiences when in 1978 and 1980 President Jimmy Carter joined Willie to sing a duet of “Georgia.” It’s the only time a president of the United States performed at the amphitheater.
And†Father John Misty†represents a new breed of artists destined to become a veteran of Merriweather. Tillman, who grew up in Rockville, Md., just released last week his third album, titled “Pure Comedy.” He’s lauded as one of the most gifted, thought provoking singer-song writers today.
Americana singer/songwriter Grace Potter, who wowed the Merriweather during Virgin FreeFest, will serve as host of the 50th Anniversary celebration show and will play a few acoustic songs as well.

When the Pavilion opened July 15, 1967, the evening featured a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra. Vice President Hubert Humphrey was on hand to recognize Marjorie Merriweather Post – for donating millions of dollars to the arts and the facility that bears her name – and Jim Rouse – the pioneer who invented Columbia, Md., and had the foresight to put an amphitheater in the middle of it. When describing his vision, Rouse said, “There should be a strong infusion of nature throughout a network of towns…people should be able to feel the spaces of nature as part of their everyday life.”
In The New York Timess review of the inaugural performance, Harold Schonberg wrote, “The Merriweather Post Pavilion of Music turned out to be an unqualified architectural and acoustical success. It is exceptionally handsome, with pleasing proportions, clean lines and an unobtrusive kind of finish that fits perfectly into the landscape.” The pavilion was designed by world renowned Frank Gehry.
I.M.P. recently announced it has signed a 40-year lease with The Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission to operate the amphitheater. The venue is in the 3rd year of a 5-year $55 million renovation effort, which includes expanding and enhancing the stage, creating 15,000 square feet of backstage facilities including two pools for the artists, and adding new box offices, bathrooms and concessions. Rolling Stone and Pollstar have named Merriweather among the best amphitheaters in the nation.

Wild Honey Celebrates The Band: Music From Big Pink & Beyond

Benefit-concert producers the Wild Honey Foundation will present The Band’s first two records Music From Big Pink and The Band, plus bonus songs, performed by a star-studded house band and guest singers. The event, which will benefit the Autism Think Tank, will take place Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 8 p.m., at the historic Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd. in downtown Glendale, Calif.
Led by acclaimed musical director Rob Laufer (whose credits include George Martin’s Hollywood Bowl tribute to Sgt. Pepper), Wild Honey Orchestra and Friends, with a full horn section, will tackle The Band’s deeply influential and unforgettable Music From Big Pink and The Band in their entirety, with the same level of love, passion, and stunning musicianship brought to the ensemble’s previous takes on the Beatles and the Beach Boys. These iconic records include timeless tunes like “Up on Cripple Creek,” “The Weight,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” The show will also include bonus songs such as “It Makes No Difference,” “Stage Fright,” and “The Shape I’m In.”

This non-profit organization brings together a team of top autism specialists, via an Internet medical conference, to tackle the medical and psychological problems faced by children and young adults with autism like Wild Honey co-organizer Paul Rock’s 13-year-old son Jake, whose own issues have improved since his involvement with the organization.
Dating back to 1994, the 501(3)(c), non-profit Wild Honey’s numerous grassroots benefit events have featured appearances by Brian Wilson, Dave Davies from the Kinks, the late Alex Chilton, The Bangles, Beach Boy Al Jardine, Micky Dolenz, Mike Mills (R.E.M), Al Stewart, Denny Laine, Tony Asher, Dave Gregory of XTC, Danny Hutton from Three Dog Night, Chuck Negron, Matthew Sweet, Colin Hay, Dan Wilson, Jody Stephens of Big Star, The Continental Drifters, Mike Mills of R.E.M., the late P.F. LOS ANGELES, CA (January 17, 2017) – In what the LA Times headlined simply as “REVOLUTIONARY” in their earliest performances, the band that was assembled as a politically-charged response to 2016’s tumultuous election year, shows no signs of stopping just because the election is over. After a sweeping cross country “Make America Rage Again” tour, PROPHETS OF RAGE will bring the rage to Inauguration Day with a special ANTI INAUGURAL BALL concert on Friday, January 20th at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. For the first time in 11 years, Audioslave will perform with Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. Special guests Vic Mensa, Jackson Browne and Jack Black are also set to appear. The full show will be livestreamed on the band’s Facebook page to allow for participation from fans all across the globe.
In a reflection of these artists’ long tradition of protesting the establishment, this date marks the 20th anniversary of Radio Free Los Angeles, a protest concert that members of Rage Against the Machine held at President Clinton’s Inauguration Day.

At the age of 21, Vic Mensa has already established himself as an integral part of Chicago culture, first co-founding the SAVEMONEY collective and releasing two mixtapes in two years and now as a solo artist signed with the Roc Nation family. His debut mixtape ‘Straight Up’ in 2010, followed by 2013’s ‘INNANETAPE’, brought Mensa’s solo work to a new and larger audience. Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education.
ABOUT JACK BLACK
Jack Black is an old school song and dance man who will next be seen in The Polka King, a film he both produced and starred in that will premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He will also be seen alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Nick Jonas in Jumanji, set for release this December. Black’s previous film credits include Goosebumps, Bernie, Tropic Thunder, School of Rock, Nacho Libre, King Kong and DreamWorks Animations’ smash franchise Kung Fu Panda. Black also continues to tour both domestically and internationally as the lead singer of the rock-folk comedy group Tenacious D, which he created with longtime friend and collaborator Kyle Gass.
