Jackson Browne
Solo Acoustic Vol. 1
INSIDE RECORDINGS
West Coast troubadour’s first solo live record
When Jackson Browne announces, before “These Days”, that he wrote the song when he was “about 16”, you just have to shake your head. A gorgeously pensive song, covered by everyone from Nico to Greg Allman, its words sound like the work of an old man glimpsing his own death. And so it goes with Browne, progenitor of the California singer-songwriter sound, shadowboxing his past. His early songs -- circa 1972-’76 — are haunted, emotionally defiant and direct vignettes, especially “Fountain of Sorrow” and “For A Dancer”. These splendid, stripped-down renditions carry on internal conversations that transcend time and generations. – Luke Torn
