J.D. Souther, the legendary singer-songwriter whose career has been highlighted by numerous hit songs recorded by a broad range of artists including the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and others has set a national tour in support of his first studio album in 25 years.

The album, If The World Was You, will be released on the Slow Curve label (distributed through Sony RED) on October 14. Souther's tour begins November 3 in Annapolis, MD at the Ram's Head Tavern and continues into December with performance dates in major markets on the East Coast, in the Midwest, Southwest and California.

Commonly credited with being one of the principal architects of the California country-rock sound, Souther is expected to perform a number of the songs he's written for other artists including "New Kid In Town," "Best of My Love" and "Faithless Love" while showcasing the new songs from If The World Was You that were recorded over the course of the past year in Nashville where he now resides.

Souther's last studio album, Home By Dawn, was released in 1984 and he followed that with a performance tour the next year.  With the exception of a few one-off appearances in the intervening 24 years, the 1985 dates were the last live performances from Souther who would go on to pursue an acting career while continuing to be a source of material for other artists including India.Arie, Brooks & Dunn, Jimmy Buffet, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills & Nash, Diamond Rio, Dixie Chicks, Don Henley, One Flew South, Roy Orbison, Bernadette Peters, George Strait, Brian Wilson, Trisha Yearwood, Warren Zevon, and, most recently, the newly re-formed Eagles, who chose Souther's protest song "How Long" as the debut single from their first studio album in 28 years.

Souther had been part of such groups as Longbranch Pennywhistle, a collaboration with Eagle-to-be Glenn Frey and Souther-Hillman-Furay Band that included Richie Furay of the Buffalo Springfield and Poco and Chris Hillman of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. It was, his songwriting and solo work as an artist that brought him the most recognition and critical accolades. Explaining his lengthy absence from the public eye following the 1985 tour, Souther simply says, "I just wanted to be a good songwriter.  I wanted to just stay home and write."

The eleven new songs that comprise If The World Was You underscore Souther's versatility as a writer and performer with jazz inflected undercurrents that reflect the years he lived in Amarillo, TX.  It was there that Souther, who was born in Detroit, attended North Texas State and was a student in the institution's highly regarded jazz program.  He was influenced by John Coltrane and Miles Davis and Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly, the result of which is a body of work that continues to evolve and surprise.
